On our way to Uganda!

Well, we are trying anyway!
Our flight has been delayed 6 hours!

Thanks to access to the business lounge and modern technology everyone is still smiling!

So... I thought now would be a great time to finally post here!

Shireen and I decided to join Matt on his trip to Kampala this week. I have never been, but Matt always enjoys his time there. We will try to be better at keeping you all posted! As you know, it has been a busy time for us as the little addition to our family can be quite time consuming!

Wishing everyone on the east coast a VERY safe Sunday as Irene makes her way thru!

Breakfast in Zanzibar!

I know, I know we have not been so great about keeping up with our blog lately ... Work and life seem to have gotten in the way. In meantime, here we are in Zanzibar. We just enjoyed a wonderful breakfast overlooking the magnificent Indian Ocean.

We are heading out shortly on a spice tour before heading back home this afternoon. We will do our best to post more pictures when we get home.

Happy Labor Day weekend!

Playing with giraffes

Week three in Nairobi and things are going great!

The house was painted and our air shipment finally arrived with things like our teapot, our sheets, and, most importantly, the Wii.  I predict that our house will soon be the new hotspot for the neighborhood kids (and the kids at heart).

We also finally broke down and rented a car, which has given us a lot of new freedom to explore our new city.  Ramesh even got into the act and started driving.  Despite her repeated promises that she wouldn't drive for at least three months, and despite the fact that she cussed like a sailor when she finally did drive, she did a great job.  She took to the crazy Nairobi roads like a fish to water.  There's so much to do and see here!

Today, Ramesh and I went out with some friends to the Giraffe Centre, which is about a 30 minute drive away from our house.  As you can see from the photos, we got a little up close and personal with the giraffes.  Ramesh was as giddy as a schoolgirl and even I have to admit it was nice to get some giraffe lovin'.

In short, it's been a fun three weeks.  Our neighbors are great, the house is beautiful, and they even have a plethora of sushi restaurants.  As Ramesh says: "I think we're gonna make it after all."

We miss everyone and are looking forward to lots of visits!

Love,

Matt and Ramesh

Another milestone achieved....

I finally drove tonight!!
It was initially quite awkward to be driving a right hand drive car, but Matt was incredibly calm and I made it all the way to the mall and back.

The painting inside the home is all done, and I will post pictures of the finished product soon.  (That was such a fun project!)

Tomorrow is another VERY exciting day: Our air shipment is finally arriving!!!

So, overall, I'd have to say things are going very well.
As Matt says: We are one step closer to being more settled!

Pre-painting pictures

First set of pictures was from kitchen, front hallway and bathroom on first floor.

These photos are of closet leading into room, also on first floor.  We are planning on making this our "Wii/ TV room"
As you can see our home is still very empty... waiting for our things to arrive still!

We are expecting our air shipment this week!
